Inspirational Quote of the Day

Akon

"You got to be strong and do what you feel in your heart, regardless of who is
around..."
-Akon, from the song "Pot of Gold"

There is so much wisdom that can be picked up if you really tune into the songs your are listening to, or at least most of the songs. The above quote is from Akon's Song "Pot of Gold" from the album "Trouble". I have heard this song soo many times before (yes, I am a fan of Akon) however, this quote has always escaped me for some odd reason that I am just getting it now. If you haven't had this song before I suggest the you find it and listen to it, this is so that you get the full benefit of what the quote is saying. My point is that, sometimes we get soo caught up with the people that are watching that we greatly disregard that inner urge to do something. This is mainly because we fear the criticism that will follow when you actually take action. I have to admit, this is something I have had the most trouble with however I have greatly improved. I stopped looking to others for approval, and by trusting and following guts with faith, this is of course after I have gathered the facts I needed. I once read that in a personal development book called, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, that the fear of criticism is one of the top road block to great personal achievements. If this is a weakness for you, I recommend that you start working more getting rid of this negative aspect. To really improve, I recommend that you get yourself a copy of Napoleon Hills book, "Think and Grow Rich!"
Think about it !

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Yahaya Baruwa

"I think the only thing that matters in life is our attitude."
-Yahaya Baruwa

I am sure you are familiar with the saying, attitude is everything. I really believe this is true. Your attitude has the power to make a great situation out of a bad one other vice versa. Allow me to illustrate, I once heard a story about a friend whose flight was delayed because of a major thunderstorm. Now he was not the only one stuck, there was also a young lady, an executive on her way to New York. Being impatient and irritated, the lady began yelling and screaming at the gate security about how urgent she needed to get to New York because millions of dollars were on the line. However, being in the same situation, the friend thought that it is a good idea to have delayed the flight because he preferred to reach New York in one piece, and then decided to read his book, instead screaming and yelling at the gate security like the young lady was.

I have heard on multiple occasions that your attitude in most cases can actually mean the difference between you having a happy fun life or having the opposite of that. This something I take seriously in my daily life, though it is hard sometimes (it is not impossible) to maintain a positive attitude but I have found that it really makes a huge different because while others are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, I would be one of the few calm people who finds their way out of the situation.

with that said, choose wisely how you react to events that occur in your daily life.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

"The only things you regret in life are the risk you didn't take."
A. Lou Vickery

This is another quote the addresses the topic, risk. Most people have dreams that are soo beautiful however they are just too terrified of risk. This is usually the risk involved in allowing themselves to step out of their comfort zone, also known as their cocoon. Being in the comfort zone for so long, people tend to get very comfortable that the idea of stepping out of that comfort zone is not at all welcomed because it is like stepping out into a totally different world. From my experience I find the above quote to be very true in many instances. For example, I remember back in grade 8, I had a friend who had a crush on the prettiest girl in school; however he was soo afraid of stepping out of his comfort zone that he chose not take the risk of asking her out because he fears rejection. Today, that same friend still has a crush on the same person however she is currently in 4 year old relationship. This example may seem very miniature in importance; however, it really shows the consequence of not taking a risk, the pain of regrets in the case of the friend. Now imagine a situation where the consequences were much higher. Personally, I think it is much better to take risk in life (calculated risks) than to suffer from the pains of regrets and this is something I continue to incorporate into my daily live even though it is sometimes difficult (yet not impossible) to step of my comfort zone. it is funny, how as kids we can risk facing so many consequences just to get what we want (eg. crying at the supermarket) but unfortunately lose that as we grow older, what is up with that?

Inspirational Quote of the Day

“Do it big or don’t bother”

-Habib Baruwa

This is a quote by a young man whom I greatly admire, my own brother Habib Baruwa. At the age of only 18, he has successfully established his own company, allcargos.com, which specializes in event rentals, eg. Tents, easels, chairs, tables, etc. The reason why I decided to use his quote, Do it big or don’t bother, is that so many young adults today are so concern about getting things done or making things happen. However, the problem here is that, instead of doing it big, that worry about doing it small. By doing things small, they are not getting very far because they do not challenge themselves, trying new things or taking risks (calculated ones of course). To illustrate, take Habib’s accomplishment as an example, instead of focusing on just getting a minimum wage job, not saying that is bad, however he choose to borrow a total of over $500.00 to start his rental company. He risked losing the borrowed amount therefore impacting his reputation, having a bad reputation for bad debt, and more but he choose to do it big.

I think the lesson here is very clear, you can choose to play it safe and go for the menial achievement in life and be comfortable or you can choose to take risk (calculated ones) and achieve lasting success that you can be proud of one to three years down the road.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

"Four short words sum up what has lifted most successful individuals above the crowd: a little bit more. They did all that was expected of them and a little bit more."

-A. Lou Vickery

This is a very interesting quotation; it addresses what I think a lot of people take for granted. This is concerning the importance of "going the extra mile." I agree that it is definitely this fact that separate very successful people from everybody else. For example, as a sales person for a fitness center in downtown Toronto, I found the few people who were highly successful were for example, the Sales Managers, General Managers, Regional Managers, etc. I figured "these people are no different than I am" they were all once sales people like me. However, the only difference was that these people went the extra mile which allowed them the opportunity to advance. They read and continue to read personal development books, Sales books, seek responsibilities, exceeded their monthly quotas, etc. With this realization, I began doing as they did and I found that there was nothing impossible about it. I began to have more member referrals because I that the time and patience to serve a new member; invested in multiple sales books and also books on attitude and most importantly, I became a mentee to the managers. The above example may not seem to be as much, however, if you take a few moment and really think about the for words, "a little bit more" and start incorporating it in your daily life, you will find yourself experiencing many benefits, be it big or small. Example, this could be the joy you get from holding the door for someone, or giving up your seat on the public transit for somebody else; or taking the time to exceed your boss' expectation by making 10 new sales instead of just 7. This tends to separate you from everybody else, because you are more productive, hardworking, kind, and friendly, therefore making you a success in the process because those are the traits your boss and people in general are attracted to. I know this is true in my experience, my manager will recognize my hard work by giving my company generated business and I have expanded my network of friends because I posses the above traits and much more.

I definitely recommend that you really start "doing a little bit more" or "going the extra mile" in your daily life because believe it or not you will start enjoying benefits that may have seem impossible in the past.

Inspirational quote of the day

Will Smith

"You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can't do something themselves, they want to tell you, you can't do it. You want something. Go get it. Period!"
-Chris Gardner, (Will Smith) Pursuit of Happyness

Today quote of the day is very different from all the previous quotes, it is a passage from the famous movie, "The Pursuit of Happyness." It was said by Will Smith's character, Chris Gardener. I believe this quote is very important in a sense that it really addresses the conflict that a lot of people face when it comes pursuing their dreams. The moral of the movie, is that if you got a dream you have to protect it and pursue it regardless of what all the people around you are telling you or what your current situation may look like. For example, realizing that he wanted to become a stockbroker, he began to pursue this dream. This is because he saw it as a vehicle to provide a comfortable lifestyle for his family. However, he encountered a situation where he had to protect his dream from his wife who was very negative about this. Disregarding all the negative, Chris choose to continue on his way in face of all the discouragements that was enough to stop the average person right before they even start. At the end of the movie, he made it successfully to his destination, even though he had to lose his wife, his house, his car, friends and so much more in the process.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

"The only limits that exist are those we place on ourselves."
-Anonymous

I do not know the name of the person who made the above quote, however if you know who the person is let me know so that i may update the post with a short biography.

Clearly this quote answer a lot of questions. Questions such as why do some people achieve remarkable success while others struggle?, or why does the rich get richer while the poor and middle class stay where they are and in most cases go back?, or why do some people make into the history books for all eternity while others are barely and in most cases never heard of? The above inspirational quote is something that I have come to understand and continue to during the past 2 years till now. After reading books and listening to speeches about great and very successful people current and past, and through my daily interaction with people from many walks of life I have found it to be true, the only limits that exist truly are those we place on our own selves. Here is a perfect example of what I mean, ask yourself the following question, "is it possible for me to achieve my wildest dreams?" If you are like most people I have met, you have stated all kinds of reasons and excuses why you cannot make your wildest dream a reality. Those reasons and excuses are the limitation you have placed on yourself and you cannot before to begin to move forward until change those stopping blocks into stepping blocks. For the sake of
illustration take my experience for example, I was offered a job to become a sales person at a downtown Toronto gym. At first thought I was a bit closed minded because I felt that I was not good sales and was not good with people, however realizing that these were limiting thoughts, I immediately made up my mind that I would become better at sales and with people. I began reading books and listening to tapes about sales and by the end of my third month, I was making over $2,000/month straight Commission! Considering the above I have set bigger and more rewarding goals for myself.

I hope you got the moral of the above inspirational quote and that of my experience. Never ever allow yourself to limit your own potential! So, like Nike says, "Just do it!"Pursue that dream, even if you don't know how you will make it happen just start. (Refer Feb. 13 quote of day, this is under "archive.")

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Reginald F. Lewis 1942-1993

"Keep going no matter what."
-Reginald F Lewis

This amazing quote is by my Favorite mentor of all time Mr Reginald F Lewis. Born in the era when racial discrimination was wide spread in the USA, the reason why Mr Lewis is my all time favorite mentor is that despite the inequality which was a enough to be a major road block for most people in his situation, African-Americans, he was able to achieve what seemed to be impossible making him at one point the Wealthiest African-American in America. And the other achievement was the purchase of the major food company, Beatrice International Foods.

I recommend that you read his Autobiography, "Why should white guys have all the fun?" Now you are probably thinking "What kind of book is that?" It is an awesome book. I can guarantee it to be a source of inspiration for you like it is for me- regardless of what background or race you are-Success is not limited by race, class or creed, it is limited by noting! The book is inspirational for me because looking at where I am now in my life, I can easily relate to Mr. Lewis and his experiences in different areas of his life such as how he dealt with family, friends, and people and by starting to deal with this area similarly.

The point I am making clear above is that, Mr Lewis Kept going regardless of all the roadblock that appeared as stopping block and did not think about quitting because what he was pursuing, was much more important and of greater value than the so call road blocks.

What this quote means to me: I think this quote directly addresses the human tendency to quit and give up at the first sign of defeat. By keeping no matter what we can overcome whatever it is that seems to be in way, just like in the case of Mr Lewis.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

"It is the pain that makes you stronger!"
-Anonymous

Today's quote is by an unknown person (in case you know who the person is, please let me know). It is the pain that makes you stronger. I think this is something that everybody has come realize as being part of life, just like i have. Because life is full of "ups" and "down", but fortunately more of the ups than there are downs. I am going to use an example of a very close friend of mine. He was a victim of fraud. His was lured into placing an order for a non-existent item with a price tag of over $1,500.00. Please take note that this was not all his money, half of it belonged to his business partner. Realizing that he had lost his money he was devastated that because it was a large amount of money for him. Today he is much wiser (stronger) because he is much more careful with his money, and does all his research before handing over large amount of money.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Theodore Roosevelt 1858-1919

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."

-- Theodore Roosevelt, 26th U.S. President

I believe this quote is a very powerful inspirational quote. The reason why the above quote is powerful is that it directly addresses the human tendency to "play it safe". For those who do not know what i mean, playing it safe is what people do to avoid any sought of risks or at least try. Here is an example, I know a lot of people who want to achieve major things in their lives, e.g. own their dream homes, have their dream income, family, etc. However a lot of them choose to play it safe because they chose not to dare to pursue their dreams and win, only because they are too afraid of failing. Therefore they just choose to remain in their comfort zone never allowing themselves to experience victory nor defeat. Here is a real life example of a friend of mine. (I will leave the name out and refer to him as Mr. Q). Mr. Q has a dream to become a wealthy man so that he can afford to live the life of his dreams. However, Mr. Q felt that it is too much of a risk to pursue such a goal and prefers to stick with his day job because it pays the bills. To my shocking realization, he was willing to give up his dreams and spend the next 30 plus years working at a job(s) that he does not enjoy instead of spending 3-4 years in the pursuit and realization his dream, to become a wealthy person. I hope you understand the lesson behind the above example, you can either choose to dare might things to win glorious triumphs or choose to play it safe and forever only dream about your goal.

Short Bio. Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United State of America, was born on October 27, 1858. Known to the public as teddy, Theodore was a leader of the republic party and of the progressive party. Examining the kind of life he led, Theodore greatly illustrates the wisdom of the above quote. This is reflected mostly in his achievements before and during his time as the President of the United State of America.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

“Take Action!”

-Yahaya Baruwa

I thing this is a very unique quote in itself. This is mainly for two reasons, one because it is probably the shortest quote that exist, and two, because it is straight to the point. As a young entrepreneur, if I was asked to point out one thing that was my weakness, I would say “taking action” and here is my reason why. There are many times I would great ideas, but I would spend way too much time planning than I do work. Put it this way, I get Ready, aim, aim, aim, aim, aim, aim…and never fired. As a result of this delay in taking action I suffered some consequences; I have lost over $3,500.00 of my own money in many “planning” stages, almost lost my reputation and respect, wasted valuable time. However as a person of wisdom once said, “We learn the most about ourselves when we fail” I began to really focus on correcting this weakness by turning it into a major strength. Because I know that the only way to accomplish anything major in life, I need to take consistent action daily. Here is how I have been improving; 1. Instead of the “Ready, Aim, fire” approach, I use the “Ready, Fire, Aim” Approach. In case you don’t understand what I mean, let me explain the difference. Using the “Ready, Fire, Aim” approach, you take immediate action on whatever idea you are “inspired with, therefore you avoid wasting valuable time from over planning and you will find out quickly if the idea you have is good or not. Please keep in my that, if you have an idea that requires a great deal of investment to start e.g. $10,000.00, I recommend that you do all your planning before hand however you still have to avoid over planning. 2. I keep things as simple as possible. For example, if I don’t need to worry about business cards or a business logo or a business plan, I only focus on the tasks that will get my idea “off the ground.” On another note, I like to point out one more observation; from my experience of not taking action, I find that I did not taken action on many occasions because I feared that I did not have what it took and that I might fail. However, the way I have come to improve this aspect of myself is by reading personal development books such as Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, and many others. (Let me know if you want any recommendations).

Considering the above, I recommend that you take action on whatever it is you want to accomplish, today; right now. Keep in mind that these series of actions can be as small as getting out of your house and knocking on some doors or picking up the telephone and making some phone calls etc. Remember; as you begin to take action, gradually you will find that it will no longer be one of your weakness, but one of your strengths. This is what I am starting to realize. With that said, "Take Action!"

HappY Valentine’s Day-Be Good!

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Dr. Martin Luther king Jr 1929-1968
"Take the first step in faith, you don't have to see the
whole staircase,
just take the first step!"

I think this the best inspiration quote that was ever created. You are a probably sitting there witah your jaw open thinking "Damn! that is a very big claim." Here's why, if you where to find out from just 10 people what their dreams are and then ask them if they are willing to pursue it, what you will find is that almost all of them are unwilling to pursue their dreams. This is mainly because they do not know how they are going to do it. If you doubt this, I really recommend that you experience this for yourself-and I can guarantee that you will find the same or similar results I did. For the purpose of illustration, here is one of my experience with a friend. This took place Thursday February 12, 2009. In all honesty, this friend has one of the best voices I have ever had. Then I ask if she ever got in front of a microphone. The first thing she began to do was give me all kinds of excuses as to why she could not successful get started as a very successful singer. I think if she would stop and really examine what she's got and to make a firm decision to take that first step in faith and keep going no matter what, then slowly the stair case will beginto reveal itself. And eventually achieve the success she greatly deserve because she took the time and courage in herself to give the world beautiful music (Please refer to Quote of the day for Feb 11, 2008). In case you are wandering who this person is, I won't tell you because I respect her privacy. Just think of her as a person who could be your next favorite artist/singer. I think this illustration is sufficient.I think people should trust and believe in the beauty of their and take that first step towards their dream because believe it or not, ways to make your dream/goal a reality will begin to appear. This is what I experience on a daily basis.

Quick Bio; I am sure you know who Dr. Martin Luther King Jr is. Born on January 15, 1929. He was an American Clergy Man and Activist. However, he is well known as a leader in the African-American Civil rights movement. Dr. King believed in the beauty of his dream; where black and white people would coexist in harmony and equality. This greatly illustrated by the his very famous speech "I have a dream" which he delivered on August 28, 1963. I recommend that you read it, if you haven't already.

I think Dr. King is a perfect example of a person who took the first step in faith without seeing the whole staircase, and behold, his dream is a reality, even though he is not alive to witness it (unfortunately, he was assassinated) . If only he was still alive to witness the Presidential Victory of President Barack Obama.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Helen Keller 1880-1968

"It is only from the valley that the Mountain seems high."
- Helen Keller.

This amazing quote originated from a very inspirational person in herself, Helen Keller. For the benefit of those who don't know who Helen Keller is, here is a brief biography. I am very sure you will find her to be very inspirational as I have. Helen was born on June 1, 1880. Like most babies she was born in good health; however within nineteen months of her birth she contracted a disease which left deaf and blind. At first sight the normal perception might be that she would not go very far in life as she would if she had a functional eye and ear. However, contrary to the above, she led a very successful life. In fact she was an American Author, Lecturer, and political activist. On top all of these, she became the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Art Degree. The moral of the story; if Helen is able to accomplish such great things in her life with what appeared to be a major obstacle, then we as “fully functional people” should by able to accomplish ten times more and should be grateful on a daily basis for the fully functioning body we have and make the best of ourselves everyday.

In regards to what the quote means to me; "it is only from the valley that the Mountain seem high." If you want to accomplish something, regardless of how big and difficult it may seem initially, never be afraid of taking that first step towards it. Regardless of whether or not you know how you are going to make it happen (in most cases you won’t know). As you begin to put one foot in front of other toward the mountain, gradually you will begin to notice that as you begin to climb the mountain, it begins to get smaller and smaller. For the purpose of illustration, consider this example. I remember my final year in high school thinking about how intense and difficult University was going to be. I remember feeling intimidated just thinking about the idea. However as I got started in University I noticed that it was just another level and looking back 3 years later, I noticed that I have climbed really far up that mountain that seemed almost impossible to climb from the valley.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Henry Ford 1863-1947(1863-07-30)

"Whether you think you can or you cannot, either way you are right.”

This quote is by a great American Industrialist, Henry Ford. He is a person whom i greatly admire for many reasons. Here are two reasons- First, Henry Ford is truly an icon for the American Success story. With the creation of the assembly line, he was able to revolutionize the automotive industry, making him the wealthiest and most known person in the world. The second reason I admire Mr. Ford is for his good sense for business. With the strategy of keeping cost low and production high, he was able to produce and sell millions of the very popular Model T in addition to the many models that followed after. There is no doubt that the above quote was something that Mr. Ford incorporated into his success in becoming one of the world most successful people.

What this quote means to me is that, regardless of the situation, regardless of who is around or who is watching, I have the choice of whether to give myself the permission to believe in myself to accomplish a major goal or to just sit there, letting myself quit even before getting started. Out of the above options, I choose to give myself permission believe in myself, to accomplish something long lasting and worth while.
