Inspirational Quote of the Day

Helen Keller 1880-1968

"It is only from the valley that the Mountain seems high."
- Helen Keller.

This amazing quote originated from a very inspirational person in herself, Helen Keller. For the benefit of those who don't know who Helen Keller is, here is a brief biography. I am very sure you will find her to be very inspirational as I have. Helen was born on June 1, 1880. Like most babies she was born in good health; however within nineteen months of her birth she contracted a disease which left deaf and blind. At first sight the normal perception might be that she would not go very far in life as she would if she had a functional eye and ear. However, contrary to the above, she led a very successful life. In fact she was an American Author, Lecturer, and political activist. On top all of these, she became the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Art Degree. The moral of the story; if Helen is able to accomplish such great things in her life with what appeared to be a major obstacle, then we as “fully functional people” should by able to accomplish ten times more and should be grateful on a daily basis for the fully functioning body we have and make the best of ourselves everyday.

In regards to what the quote means to me; "it is only from the valley that the Mountain seem high." If you want to accomplish something, regardless of how big and difficult it may seem initially, never be afraid of taking that first step towards it. Regardless of whether or not you know how you are going to make it happen (in most cases you won’t know). As you begin to put one foot in front of other toward the mountain, gradually you will begin to notice that as you begin to climb the mountain, it begins to get smaller and smaller. For the purpose of illustration, consider this example. I remember my final year in high school thinking about how intense and difficult University was going to be. I remember feeling intimidated just thinking about the idea. However as I got started in University I noticed that it was just another level and looking back 3 years later, I noticed that I have climbed really far up that mountain that seemed almost impossible to climb from the valley.
